A New Urine Test on Loaches Used to Diagnose Hydatidiform Mole and Pregnancy

Abstract
Further studies were carried out on the urine test on loaches for the diagnosis of pregnancy and hydatidiform mole, by the method previously described by the author.
In the current study, positive reactions(+) were obtained in 108 urine specimens(85.71 %) of pregnant women out of 126. Thus, ,.the over all results of the current and previously reported studies showed positive reactions in 342 specimens out of 386, the incidence, of positivity being 88,60 %. However, seasonal variations were noted in the results. i.e., the incidence of positive reactions was 92.41% during spring and summer (between March and August) and 78.89% during fall and winter(between September and February). False positive reactions were noted in 11 out of 100 specimens from non-pregnant women. Thus the total of 27 urine specimens of non-pregnant women out of 329 in the current and previously reported studies showed positive reactions, the incidence of false positivity being 8.2%. In seven specimens from eight patients with hydatidiform mole, strongly positive reactions(++) were obtained. Thus, the over all results of the current and previously reported studies showed strong positive reactions in 28 - cases out of 29, the incidence of positivity being 96.55%.
It was noted that the urine specimens of patients with hydatidiform mole produced the strongest stimulation of spawning in loaches.
It was felt that this test was a simple yet very accurate diagnostic test for hydatidiform mole.
